The Good Dog! International Film Festival will be held for the first time in Perth at Northbridge Piazza this Easter – and canines are welcome to attend!
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi, a self-confessed puppy lover, said an evening enjoying films about man’s (and woman’s) best friend was a great way to enjoy the public holiday.
“This film festival invites animal lovers to bring their families and friends – including their dogs – pack a picnic, dress up, and enjoy a unique outdoor cinema experience dedicated to one of humanity’s most trusted companions, the canine,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“Good Friday will mark the festival’s first airing outside Sydney where it started in 2012.”
Festival founder Anny Slater said she was excited the Perth premiere would begin the festival’s inaugural tour of Australia, the USA, UK and Europe.
“The films are all award winning narrative and animated shorts, hand picked from festivals such as Sundance and Tribeca, featuring or starring a beloved canine character,” Ms Slater said.
“The Good Dog Film Festival has been touted as one of the 10 Coolest Film Festivals in the World in the Out of the Box category by US MovieMaker Magazine.
“Zachary Quinto of Star Trek features in one film and another is an Oscar winning student film. This year the films hail from Australia, UK, USA, Germany and Canada.”
Ms Slater, who’ll be missing her own pooch to attend the Perth event, said there would be furry friends to pet at the info stalls on site representing local dog welfare agencies. The evening will also include free face painting and balloons for kids.
